A former Cal State Fresno associate athletic director has filed a discrimination claim against the university, accusing officials of firing her for trying to comply with a law that promotes gender equality in athletics.

“My position was eliminated, and I was terminated from the athletics department for and because of my support and advocacy for complying with the law--gender equity and fairness,” Diane Milutinovich said Wednesday.

Milutinovich, who has worked at Fresno State for 22 years, filed claims stating that her termination was in retaliation for playing an integral role in assisting a two-year federal investigation that found in 1994 that Fresno State had not complied with Title IX, a law mandating equality in boys’ and girls’ sports at institutions receiving federal funding.
