TURNING POINTS

Troy Glaus continued to give us his best Mike Schmidt impersonation, hitting the game-winning homer off J.C. Romero in the bottom of the eighth inning. It was his fourth solo homer of the postseason. It also was the first run given up by the Twin bullpen in 5 2/3 innings in the series.

The Angels had a chance to break the game open in the second inning after Garret Anderson led off with a homer. With one out, Scott Spiezio walked and Shawn Wooten singled, sending Spiezio to third. But Eric Milton got off the hook when Bengie Molina popped to first and Benji Gil struck out.

Wooten had what must rank as one of the series’ best at-bats in the second inning. With a run in and Spiezio on first, he kept fouling off Milton’s pitches while working the count to 3-2. Then, on Milton’s 12th pitch, he singled sharply to right, enabling Spiezio to advance to third base.

Troy Percival is too tough for the Twins. This time, he needed only seven pitches to retire the side in order in the ninth for his second save of the series. He hasn’t yielded an earned run to them in 37 1/3 innings. No pitcher has an ERA of 0.00 against a team for as many innings.
