Kahlo-Rivera items on the block

A couple of days before the life and loves of Frida Kahlo appear in movie palaces, in the Miramax film “Frida” opening next Friday, Southern California fans of the Mexican painter can peruse a different account of her private affairs.

Various items from a little-known archive -- including letters and notes Kahlo wrote to her celebrated artist husband, Diego Rivera, and the certificate of their second marriage to each other -- will go on view at Sotheby’s Beverly Hills showroom Tuesday and Wednesday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. An unidentified descendant of Rivera has consigned the 36-document archive to auction. Valued at $200,000 to $300,000, it will go on the block at Sotheby’s New York on Dec. 13.
