The Minnesota Wild no longer considers a victory over the Dallas Stars to be an upset.

Marian Gaborik scored two goals and Manny Fernandez made 33 saves, giving the unbeaten Wild a 3-1 victory over the Stars on Thursday night at St. Paul, Minn.

“I come to work thinking not, ‘How much are we going to lose by,’ but ‘If we keep it tight, we can play with them,’ ” Fernandez said. “I’m not going to lie. I thought we had a chance from the start.”

Pascal Dupuis had two assists for Minnesota (3-0-1), which handed Dallas its first loss.

Gaborik, the Wild’s first-ever draft pick, scored his first two goals of the season and reached 50 for his career.

Wearing only a pair of red socks, he slipped when his feet touched down, and he landed hard on his back. He was apparently knocked unconscious when he banged his head on the ice and was motionless on his back beside the boards. After a delay of six minutes, he was removed on a stretcher.

Montreal 3, Detroit 2 -- Andreas Dackell, Saku Koivu and Andrei Markov scored as the Canadiens spoiled the home opener for the defending Stanley Cup champions.
