From Times Staff Reports

Superior Court jurors on Monday convicted a 21-year-old Compton gang member of ambushing and killing a Long Beach policeman 2 1/2 years ago.

The panel also found true special circumstance allegations against Raymond Sandoval Jr. in the murder of Officer Daryle Black. Los Angeles County Deputy Dist. Atty. Kevin McCormick said he will seek the death penalty during Wednesday’s penalty phase of the trial.

Black, 33, and his partner, Officer Rick Delfin, were members of a police anti-gang unit and were on a routine patrol on April 29, 2000, when they were attacked. Delfin was wounded in the head and leg.
