U.S. Troops Exchange Gunfire in 2 Incidents
U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan exchanged gunfire with suspected Taliban or Al Qaeda fighters in two weekend encounters, military officials said. No injuries were reported.
The two firefights occurred in central Oruzgan province.
On Saturday night, paratroopers discovered three suspected enemy fighters setting up rockets aimed at a U.S. base camp, officials said. The Americans engaged in a firefight with the men, who then fled.
On Sunday, Special Forces exchanged fire with two enemy fighters believed to be conducting reconnaissance.
