1 Person Killed, 17 Hurt in House Explosion
A house exploded as firefighters and utility workers investigated a gas leak, killing one worker and injuring 17 people in Snow Hill.
There were reported gas leaks at three other homes, and about 20 houses were evacuated, Police Chief Michael McDermott said.
Workers were setting up fans to ventilate the home when a spark ignited gas fumes, he said.
Police did not identify the Eastern Shore Gas worker who died.
Six of the injured were taken to a hospital burn unit; three others were in critical condition at another medical center. Eight others were treated and released.
