The Latest From Country’s Dixie Chicks Tops Pop Chart

Share

The Dixie Chicks’ new album has found a home at the top of the nation’s pop chart by selling 780,000 copies in its first week in stores--the second-highest first-week total this year, behind Eminem’s “The Eminen Show” (1.3 million in its first full week in May).

The figure for the country trio’s “Home” is also the most for any female group since Nielsen SoundScan began monitoring U.S. sales in 1991, Columbia Records reports. The album’s success is likely to be cheered by country traditionalists because the Chicks’ music is roots-oriented.

Two other new arrivals also broke into the Top 10: the British rock group Coldplay’s “A Rush of Blood to the Head,” which finished No. 5 after selling 141,000 copies, and rapper Eve’s “Eve-Olution,” which finished No. 6 by selling 123,000.

The remaining positions in the top 10 were claimed by, in order, Eminem, Avril Lavigne, Nelly, Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, Clipse and Volume 10 of “Now That’s What I Call Music.” The Chicks’ “Long Time Gone” remains the bestselling single.
