Girl Killed for Leaving Hijacked Bus Slowly
School bus hijackers shot a mentally handicapped girl because they thought she took too long to leave the vehicle, and she died in a Cape Town hospital, police said.
Monique Valentine, 16, was with eight other pupils of Oasis special school in Delft, near Cape Town, when three armed men stopped their bus and ordered the children out. She was shot three times by the hijackers, who escaped with the bus, police said.
Monique’s father, Joseph Valentine, said she had a mental age of about 5 and could not have understood what was happening.
