Sept. 11 Red Cross Donors Gave $1 Billion

The American Red Cross said it had received $1 billion in donations in response to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, dwarfing responses to previous disasters.
Donations to the 9/11 Liberty Fund amounted to one-third of the agency’s annual budget and were far greater than contributions collected after the 1995 bombing of the Oklahoma City federal building and U.S. natural disasters such as hurricanes, the agency said.
