Lawmakers in Washington are considering legislation to rename a post office for the late Los Angeles Lakers announcer Chick Hearn.

The bill was introduced this week by 23 California members of the House of Representatives to honor the legendary sportscaster, who lived in Encino for more than 20 years until his death last month at age 85. Under H.R. 5340, the facility at 5805 White Oak Ave. would become the “Francis Dayle ‘Chick’ Hearn Post Office.”

Los Angeles City Councilman Nick Pacheco, meanwhile, wants to rename a street near the Staples Center in Hearn’s honor.

Until Sept. 15, Pacheco’s Web site--www.lacity.org/council/cd14 --will give fans a chance to vote for a name for the stretch of 11th Street between Figueroa and Cherry streets. Leading contenders include “Hearn Court” and “Chick Hearn Dribble Drive.”
