PBS Takes Top Emmy Honors

With 14 honors, PBS led the annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards in a ceremony dominated by work related to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

CBS took seven awards, ABC six and CNN four. The prizes were awarded Tuesday night by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences at the 23rd annual ceremony, held at the Marriott Marquis Hotel here. The awards were for work done during the 2001 calendar year.

The academy presented its first-ever lifetime achievement award to ABC News Chairman Roone Arledge, who could not attend due to illness.

Interview: National Geographic Channel for “Ted Koppel”; ABC’s “Primetime Thursday” for “New York Fire Chief Daniel Nigro”; and CBS’ “60 Minutes II” for “The Traitor.”

Coverage of breaking story (long form): “Dateline NBC” for “Against All Odds”; “CBS News Sunday Morning” for “Twist of Fate.”
