From Times Staff and Wire Reports

New seismic data on earthquake dangers at the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant may be a cause for concern over Pacific Gas & Electric Co.’s request to build a spent-fuel storage facility, according to an attorney for an environmental group.

Testifying before the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s Atomic Safety and Licensing Board this week, attorney Diane Curran surprised three administrative hearing judges with news that PG&E; had miscalculated the direction of the Hosgri earthquake fault.

Curran, the attorney for Mothers for Peace, said the new data were important enough to force the commission to hold new hearings.

Such a move could delay construction of the storage facility at the plant.
