Taking the Wraps Off Christo, Jeanne-Claude

Here’s an exhibit you can get your mind around: a survey of 40 years of work by flamboyant artists Christo and his wife, Jeanne-Claude, known for their large-scale public artworks that swaddle landscapes and landmarks in cloth.

The La Jolla branch of the Museum of Contemporary Art in San Diego will open the show on Sept. 22 and will add some unique drawings, many never displayed before. Pieces include sketches and collages for “Running Fence, Sonoma and Marin Counties, 1972-76” and “Wrapped Reichstag, Berlin, 1975-95,” plus photos and models of completed projects.

The show originated at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., earlier this year.

The exhibit ends Jan. 5. The museum is open daily except Wednesdays; hours vary. Adult admission is $6. (858) 454-3541, www.mcasd.org.
