Laundry Overload

Share

In response to “Clean Sheets and Spreads” (Letters, Sept. 1): I was a housekeeper and operations manager for more than 10 years in different hotels. No hotel company I know of (including those charging $350 a night and up) cleans a blanket or bedspread after each checkout. As at home, they are laundered or dry-cleaned as needed.

If they were laundered after each checkout, a hotel would have to have at least three bedspreads and blankets per bed. The number of dry-cleaning or washing machines would probably double. The hotel would have to increase its staff to process these heavy items. The chemicals required to launder them would further destroy the environment (especially if they were dry-cleaned).

Are hotel guests willing to pay $35 to $55 more a night to have a freshly cleaned bedspread and blanket? I don’t think so.
