Sports quotes are ubiquitous. You see them everywhere--in newspapers, magazines and locker rooms. They are sometimes humorous, sometimes inspirational.
Doren and Jones, collaborating on their fifth project, have compiled a 376-page, 5 1/2-by-5 1/2-inch paperback book filled with inspirational quotes--words that can uplift and motivate. There is one quote per page.
“For this book, we have selected quotes that will give you a better understanding of the mindset required to win,” they write.
Some examples:
“My mind is my biggest asset. I expect to win every tournament I play”--Tiger Woods.
“You don’t win on emotion. You win on execution.”--Tony Dungy.
“Single-mindedness. I hate to say it because I don’t think it’s the best thing for developing a person, but the single-mindedness--just concentrating in that one area--that’s what it takes to be a champion”--Chris Evert.
“A lot of times the expectations of you are so high that no matter what you do you are never going to be able to live up to those expectations. So you better go out and do the best you can and enjoy it.”--John Elway.
“I don’t want to look back on my life and say, ‘What if?’ Don’t worry about failure. Try it, and if it doesn’t work out that’s OK because at least you tried.”--Ann Meyers Drysdale.
“All progress requires change. But not all change is progress.”--John Wooden.
