Health Clinic Closures Cost More Than Money
Re “Closing of Clinic Leaves Many in Lurch,” Sept. 14: I have never been more ashamed of L.A. County, as nine much-needed health clinics are shut down. Do county officials have any idea how much suffering and possibly death will result from these closures? Are they aware that they are hurting those who are least able to cope, those who have no health insurance and will now have to travel long distances to receive services?
This will lead to many more illnesses and emergencies that will not be attended to, and people will suffer enormously. Do county officials care? They sit in their well-appointed offices and make decisions like this based on dollars, not people. Do we live in a Third World country, that we cannot take care of the health needs of all of our population? The so-called leaders of our county government should all resign at once.
