Fans Lose Out at This Punk Festival

Share

Am still fuming over preshrunk punk, a generous way to describe Saturday’s Levi’s Inland Invasion at Blockbuster Pavilion. With the most ambitious lineup in punk rock’s 25-year history, the fans were finally gonna have their very own punk-rock Woodstock. Instead, they got the great rock ‘n’ roll swindle. The maltreated fans appeared to be an afterthought to what amounted to a corporate buyout of punk for the day. Ownership has its privileges. I guess.... Maybe it felt so wrong because only a week earlier we checked out the brand spanking new Sprite Liquid Mix Tour at Verizon Wireless (!), a rap and punk festival that proves, yes, we can just all get along, especially when the audience is treated with respect. Got a chance to kick it with Pharrell Williams of N.E.R.D., who was kicking it with Justin Timberlake and cutie patootie Alyssa Milano. Timberlake was sporting a “Work Sucks” hat. Don’t it though.

The Well in Hollywood turns 1 on Sunday, and Radiohead’s Thom York was turning girls on at the Hollywood bar when he popped in last week. Creepy.... Wow, this sounds hot: On Wednesday, Zanzibar in Santa Monica is hosting “Dulce,” a new monthly night celebrating the deep, deep roots of Latin music. Feel the burn..... Friday night, Texas Terri headlines a Hollywood Sunset Free Clinic/Breast Cancer benefit at the Derby in Los Feliz. Also on the bill is the Blare Bitch Project, the new band from the radical Betty Blowtorch guitarist, Blare N. Bitch.

Underground favorite Deadlee--a hard-core gay Latin rapper--is performing at the Crooked Bar in WeHo on Sunday. We hear he “is” the smoking gun.... Looks like a hot bill tonight at Highland Grounds, with Candypants, Sparkle*Jets U.K. and the Dons. And it’s free. Also on the menu tonight, the Wondermints at the Knitting Factory.

The Pleasure Club brings its trashy swamp-town boogie to the Viper Room on Oct. 2, and that powerhouse rap crew Jurassic 5 will be strutting its stuff at the House of Blues in WeHo on Oct. 9.... Forty Deuce/Deep owner Ivan Kane just debuted Plugged, a new Wednesday night promotion at Deep which he’s hosting with “L.A. Models.” I’m so sher.... This just in: The hot electroclash artist Miss Kittin is scheduled to perform at the sixteen-fifty club in Hollywood on Wednesday. Me-ow.
