Grasmere--This fictional meditation on William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge is set in 1802 as Coleridge stays with Wordsworth and his younger sister, Dorothy, in Grasmere in England’s Lake District. In this beautiful presentation by Chautauqua Theatre Alliance at the Egyptian Arena Theatre, playwright Kristina Leach explores a theme similar to those in Tom Stoppard’s “Arcadia” and David Auburn’s “Proof,” looking at the chauvinism that excludes women’s contributions from history’s annals. Wordsworth (Logan Sledge) and Coleridge (Aaron G. Lamb) had produced the first edition of their influential “Lyrical Ballads” but were beginning to advance along separate career paths, with Dorothy (Annie Di Martino) as companion and muse. Leach’s Cal State Fullerton production of “Grasmere” was part of the 2002 American College Theater Festival’s national showcase at the Kennedy Center.
