* New this week: “Spring Forward,” Tom Gilroy’s beautifully realized debut feature, charts a father-and-son relationship between two parks and recreation department employees in an idyllic Connecticut community to reveal the value of friendship between men in an increasingly indifferent and self-absorbed society. A subtle depiction of the changing of the seasons suggests the constant passing of time and the eternal cycle of life. This modest, intimate film was among 2000’s best, and Ned Beatty and Liev Schreiber give two of that year’s best performances. “Spring Forward” leaves one with that rarest of feelings: a heightened awareness of the human capacity for good.
