16 Radical Islamic Groups Banned
From Times Wire Reports
Germany banned 16 Islamic groups in the latest crackdown on potential extremists.
Police searched about 100 offices, mosques and homes in five states, confiscating papers, videos and CDs and investigating dozens of people. No arrests were made.
Interior Minister Otto Schily said the organizations are linked to a radical Islamic group seeking to overthrow Turkey’s government.
