Phone Threat Closes Mall for 4 1/2 Hours
From Times Staff Reports
A West Valley mall was closed for 4 1/2 hours Thursday morning after authorities received a phone threat and found buckets containing a chemical near an air-conditioning unit.
No one was injured, and authorities determined that the substance was used for the cooling system at Westfield Shoppingtown Topanga, police said.
Police received an anonymous call about 8 a.m. from a man who said hazardous chemicals had been dispersed in the entrances, play areas and restrooms at the mall.
