200 Rebels Killed in 2 Camps, Air Force Says
The air force bombarded two rebel camps in northwestern Colombia, killing an estimated 200 insurgents, the air force commander said. The claim could not be immediately verified.
The death toll was calculated based on technology aboard the aircraft, including heat-sensing devices to detect corpses, and on reports from civilians in the area, an air force spokesman said.
Operations against rebels of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, were continuing near Ituango village, 200 miles northwest of the capital, Bogota, Gen. Hector Fabio Velasco said.
