An Engaging Palace Bash?
NEW YORK — The Brits are on tippy-toe over the coming mid-October “celebration” to which about 100 friends of the Prince of Wales and Camilla Parker Bowles have been invited at Buckingham Palace.
It is believed that this could be the occasion when Charles announces his intention to marry the woman who has been his companion, off and on, for 30 years.
Charles and Camilla have heretofore avoided entertaining at Buckingham Palace. They have always used St. James’ Palace or Highgrove. But now, this is the end of a year that has seen the queen mother’s death, Queen Elizabeth II’s own Golden Jubilee, the fifth anniversary of the death of Diana, the Princess of Wales, and Prince Harry turning 18.
Furthermore, the queen and Prince Philip will be on an October tour of Canada and will miss this “celebration,” which they may not feel too celebratory about in any case. Camilla has already bought a new gown from the design couple Robinson Valentine, and dinner and dancing in the palace ballroom will include her favorite flowers, lilies.
