Train Conductor Dies in Light-Rail System Test
A 23-year-old train conductor was killed in a derailment during a test run of the $1.9-billion AirTrain JFK light-rail system, which was scheduled to open in two months, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said.
Kelvin DeBourgh, the only person on board, died from injuries after being pinned in a car after three cars left the tracks during the test.
DeBourgh was an employee of Bombardier, the contractor that designed, built and will ultimately operate the AirTrain.
Further testing of the rail system will be suspended pending an investigation of the accident.
