A Developer and More

Share

I had the honor of working with Ira Yellin when I designed the lighting for the renovation of the Bradbury Building (“A Vacancy for L.A. Developers,” by Nicolai Ouroussoff, Sept. 22).

It was obvious upon our first meeting, and in every encounter we had, that he was committed to the project out of love. A love that seemed to grow as we spent time--mornings, afternoons, sunsets and evenings--attempting to learn the details, intricacies and complexities of what makes the building special.

I don’t think the title “developer” does the man justice. Or perhaps Ira just raised the bar for what the title should describe.

Whatever the case, he was an Angeleno whose dedication and love will be missed by all who love Los Angeles.
