Yankees Will Have Home-Field Edge
The New York Yankees clinched the home-field advantage throughout the American League playoffs, using home runs by Rondell White and Jason Giambi to beat Baltimore, 6-1, Sunday.
The Yankees’ Alfonso Soriano was hitless in five at-bats and finished with 39 home runs. He was bidding to join Barry Bonds, Jose Canseco and Alex Rodriguez as the only major league players to have 40 homers and 40 steals in a season.

Baseball record--The New York Yankees finished with a 103-58 record, one fewer loss than the Oakland Athletics (103-59). Oakland’s record was incorrect in a Sports story Monday.
Soriano set the club record for at-bats in a season (696), breaking the mark of 692 set by Bobby Richardson in 1962. He also led the AL in hits (209), steals (41) and runs (128).
The Yankees’ fifth consecutive win put them at 103-58--the same record as Oakland. The Yankees had the tiebreaker because they beat the Athletics, 5-4, in the season series.
