Rangers Remain in Chase

The New York Rangers were 3:59 away from their sixth consecutive year without a postseason appearance when Alex Kovalev scored to forge a 2-2 tie Tuesday night with the New York Islanders at Uniondale, N.Y.

The Rangers have two games left and the Islanders have three. Any combination of two points earned by the Islanders or not gained by the Rangers will eliminate the Rangers.

Washington 3, Florida 0 -- Olaf Kolzig made 31 saves at Washington and the Capitals moved to within a point of idle Tampa Bay for the Southeast Division lead.

Philadelphia 4, Columbus 0 -- Kim Johnsson scored a goal and Keith Primeau had two assists at Philadelphia to help the Flyers extend their unbeaten streak to six games.

Ottawa 3, Boston 2 -- Marian Hossa scored twice to set an Ottawa record with 45 goals, and the league-leading Senators ended their home schedule by tying a team record with 109 points.

Toronto 3, New Jersey 2 -- Ed Belfour became the seventh NHL goalie to win 400 regular-season games when Tomas Kaberle scored the winner in overtime at East Rutherford, N.J.
