Climber Makes Antiwar Statement 47 Stories Up
From Times Wire Reports
A French climber who calls himself Spider-Man scaled the 47-story headquarters of oil giant TotalFina Elf outside Paris to protest the war in Iraq.
Wearing a shirt with the message “No War,” Alain Robert, 40, reached the top of the office tower in less than an hour. At the top, he unfurled a flag with the same slogan. Police met Robert at the roof and escorted him to the ground.
Robert is renowned for climbing without ropes and has climbed the Eiffel Tower and more than 30 skyscrapers.
