Davidson’s job? Epps is interested

Who will replace Gordon Davidson when the Center Theatre Group artistic director retires at the end of next year?

No one at CTG is talking about candidates yet, but the Pasadena Playhouse’s artistic director, Sheldon Epps, has definitely tossed his hat in the ring.

Epps is a former associate artistic director of the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego. As a director, he’s best known for developing the musicals “Blues in the Night” and “Play On!”

In a recent interview, Epps, who has been in Pasadena for nearly six years, confirmed that he has been in touch with consultants who are searching for Davidson’s replacement or replacements (the job could be divided into two -- one artistic director for the Mark Taper Forum and another for the Ahmanson Theatre).

“Anyone who is passionate about the theater,” said Epps, “would be excited about the possibility of leading that organization.”
