A sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a 27-year-old man Friday after responding to a reported burglary, authorities said.
The man, whose name has not been released, appeared to point a weapon at the officer after crouching near a parked car, said Deputy Scott Butler. He said detectives have not disclosed whether the man had a weapon. The deputy had tried to detain him after noticing that he looked like a man wanted for killing another man in a nearby abandoned house Thursday night, Butler said.
The deputy had arrived in the 400 block of West Palm Street near Compton Boulevard about 3:15 p.m. after someone reported a burglary.
“He showed up at the location and noticed a guy outside who looked like a murder suspect,” Butler said.
