Studios get in on ‘reality’ action

Reality TV is the hottest trend in television programming -- and now the studios are getting in on the act with two quickie spring break movies coming out in May.
New Line Cinema said Monday it will release “The Real Cancun” on April 25; the film, from the creators of MTV’s “The Real World” and “Road Rules,” was shot last month on location in Mexico during spring break.
A week later, Universal Pictures will release “The Quest,” which follows students on spring break in Cabo San Lucas; the film is created and produced by Mike Fleiss, the creator of “The Bachelor” and “Joe Millionaire.”
Like reality TV, both films are unscripted and feature participants chosen by the producers.
