* The King and Bear: Arnold Palmer, after an emotional farewell last year, is returning to play in his 49th Masters. Jack Nicklaus will play after missing last year for health reasons.

* Noteworthy: Because Augusta National dropped its sponsors, the Masters will be the first commercial-free broadcast of a sporting event on network television.
