Rooks Is Suspended for the Season Finale

Share

The Clippers will end their disappointing season tonight without center Sean Rooks, who was suspended for one game along with the Golden State Warriors’ Troy Murphy for their third-quarter fight Monday.

Eric Piatkowski and Elton Brand had 27 and 26 points, respectively, in the Clippers’ victory at Oakland. The Clippers ended a five-game trip with a 2-3 record for a final road mark of 11-30.

This could be the final game in a Clipper uniform for several players eligible to become unrestricted free agents July 1, including Rooks, Piatkowski and Michael Olowokandi, sidelined since undergoing knee surgery Feb. 3.

Brand, Andre Miller, Corey Maggette and Lamar Odom will be restricted free agents, with the Clippers holding the right to match any outside offers.

Update -- Win or lose, the Clippers will finish 13th among 14 teams in the Western Conference and last in the Pacific Division. They won Monday at Golden State and Saturday at Denver, their first consecutive victories since defeating Memphis and Seattle on Jan. 8 and 10. The Trail Blazers, who played host Tuesday to the Phoenix Suns, are still jockeying for better playoff position with the Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves. A Clipper victory would aid the Lakers.
