Brishane Turns Attention to Gold Rush
Brishane, the first thoroughbred to win the Catalina Derby on March 8, is hoping for a chance at another first.
The 3-year-old gelded son of Red who is owned and trained by Blane Schvaneveldt will try to become the first thoroughbred winner of the Gold Rush Derby, to be run May 2.
Brishane first has to qualify for the Gold Rush and is in the first of two trials for the 870-yard race this evening.
Twelve 3-year-olds are running in the two trials; the eight fastest qualifiers will advance to the finals.
The picks: 1. Caperucita Roja. 2. Pritzi Fast. 3. Rubbertigerpants. 4. Brishane. 5. Saturdays Promise. 6. The Zinger. 7. Ought To Be Star. 8. Jordans Streaker.
Four! Use Caperucita Roja, Riggin Lady and Kan Fly in the first, Royal Tolltac, Pritzi Fast and Al Sorts Of Fast in the second, Rubbertigerpants and Glaise in the third and Brishane and Ahme Gone in the fourth.
Shots in the dark: Deal Buster debuts for hot trainer Laura Pinelli in the sixth. Scatter Dust hopes for a better start than last time in the eighth.
