Top Filly Returns Today
An Aqueduct card that includes four maiden races will be spiced up considerably late in the day.
Storm Flag Flying, the champion 2-year-old filly of 2002, will make her first start since winning the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies last Oct. 26 in the $100,000 Comely.
A Grade III at one mile, the Comely, which drew five others, could serve as a prep for the Kentucky Oaks, which will be run on May 2 at Churchill Downs, for Storm Flag Flying.
Race of the day: Marine, a recent $62,500 claim by trainer Jeff Mullins, is one of several contenders in the seventh at Santa Anita, a $61,000 optional claimer at one mile on the turf. There is a special twilight post time of 3 p.m.
Who’s hot: Gamblin Town and Trickey Trevor. A 5-year-old Town Caper mare, Gamblin Caper will try for her seventh victory in a row as she takes a class drop in the first at Bay Meadows, while a race later, Trickey Trevor, a 4-year-old Demaloot Demashoot colt, will try for his fourth in a row.
Who’s not: Zippy Chippy. The 12-year-old lost for the 97th consecutive time in a maiden race Wednesday at Thistledown.
Exotically speaking: A pick three using Pickled Bay, Diamond Dawn, Nicole’s Apollo and Smokin’ Six in the sixth, Marine, Meteor Storm, Van Rouge, Denied and Marshall Rooster in the seventh and singling N Y Remembered in the eighth.
Winners: Previous day/meet total: 2/234. Total money bet: $11.60/$1,318.60. Total money bet: $1,408
