From Times Wire Reports

Prodded by religious leaders and their own guilty consciences, Baghdad residents returned 20 looted pottery and metal items to Iraq’s national museum.

“They come and say, ‘Sir, sir, look in the bag,’ ” said Army Lt. Eric Balascik, one of the soldiers at the museum gates. “ ... And it’s a vase or something.”

“It was their conscience that made them bring that stuff back,” said Jabar Hilil, Iraq’s antiquities chief.
