A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge ruled that sealed court documents pertaining to a dispute between Sony Pictures Entertainment and Marvel Enterprises Inc. over merchandising profits from the movie “Spider-Man” should be made public.

As a matter of procedure, the original documents filed in the case will be returned to both parties. Marvel is expected to refile its complaint today, and Sony is expected to file a cross-complaint against the comic book company.

The Daily Journal and Variety had asked the court for access to the documents, including a merchandising contract between the firms.

In another matter, Judge Alexander H. Williams postponed a ruling on Sony’s motion to have the case resolved before a private judge. Marvel opposes the request.
