Picking Six Is No Easy Task

Share

Don’t be surprised if there is a massive pick six carry-over Sunday at Hollywood Park.

The reason? The Inglewood track is offering a $1-million guaranteed pool on today’s $1.31-million California Gold Rush card and the races, restricted to California breds, are extremely competitive.

The pick six will cover races 5-10 and drew 68 horses and there is no obvious single for players. So, it is entirely possible a juicy pot will be awaiting Sunday.

Race of the day: Ladies Din, a multiple stakes winner, is scheduled to make his first start since his victory in last year’s Shoemaker Mile and first for trainer Frank Monteleone in the $200,000 San Francisco Breeders’ Cup Mile Handicap at Bay Meadows. The 8-year-old gelding, who won the Grade II in 2000, will be ridden by Russell Baze.

One for the road: Peters Punkin makes her first start for trainer Frank Laboccetta in today’s ninth at Aqueduct, two months after being claimed from low-percentage connections at Golden Gate Fields. The 4-year-old filly has seven lifetime victories and figures to improve for her new stable, which has a high strike rate with its recent claims.

Exotically speaking: A pick three singling Blind Ambition in the third, using Chief Planner and Winning Stripes in the fourth and all in the fifth.

Winners (through Thursday): Previous day/meet total: 4/9. Money: Previous day/meet total: $18.40/$53.80. Total money bet: $32.
