Campaign Finance

Share

Although the concept of campaign finance reform seems noble (“Too Soft on Soft Money,” editorial, Aug. 6), I believe that it will engender new and even greater abuses than the present system allows. In addition to violating the right to free speech, it permits self-financing by wealthy individuals, and I would prefer not to be governed solely by the rich. As a former Chicagoan, I agree with the alderman who said he took money from anyone who offered it and then voted on the issues according to their merit. Rather than focusing on money, we need to focus on corruption.
