O.C. Water District to Participate in Study
The National Science Foundation has selected the Orange County Water District to participate in research into ways to improve the quality of drinking water.
The district will receive about $500,000 for the five--year study and join forces with Stanford University, the University of Illinois and Clark Atlanta University.
The district will test the effectiveness of reverse osmosis membranes, which are used to purify water by desalinization plants and commercial companies that make bottled water out of tap water. The water district, which serves about 2.3 million people, has been using and testing reverse osmosis membranes since the mid-1970s.
