Burning ‘Rubber’ in Elvis’ name

British superstar DJ Paul Oakenfold has created a remix of Elvis Presley’s “Rubberneckin’ ” as RCA Records attempts to repeat last year’s remix success of “A Little Less Conversation.”

The new version of “Rubberneckin’,” a song that appeared on Presley’s “Almost in Love” album in 1970, will be included as a bonus track on the latest Presley compilation, “2nd to None,” consisting of hits that didn’t appear on last year’s “Elvis 30 No. 1 Hits” collection.

Oakenfold said recently that although he reveres Presley’s music and would never consider tampering with one of his classics, “With all due respect to Elvis ... I don’t think ‘Rubberneckin’ was a classic.... I really think people will like it, because it is Elvis -- it’s just done in a way that I believe works.”

The single will be sent to radio stations Aug. 25 and a video, shot at several locations around Los Angeles last month, will be sent to MTV and other outlets around the same time. It will become available commercially Sept. 9. The album is scheduled for release Oct. 7.
