* Marvel Enterprises Inc. said second-quarter earnings rose almost fourfold as “The Hulk” and other movies boosted sales. Net income jumped to $32.8 million, or 42 cents a share, from $8.38 million, or 10 cents, a year earlier. Sales increased 27% to $90 million, New York-based Marvel said.

* Regional theme park operator Six Flags Inc. posted a second-quarter loss twice as large as a year ago after rain and a soft economy swept away the chance of a profit. New York-based Six Flags reported a net loss of $12.3 million, or 19 cents a share, compared with a loss of $5.96 million, or 12 cents, in the year-earlier quarter.

* Citing higher costs for health and workers’ compensation coverage, privately held Colton, Calif.-based Stater Bros. Holdings Inc., which operates 157 supermarkets in California, said fiscal third-quarter net income fell to $769,000 from $2.9 million a year ago. Sales rose 2.3% to 688.1 million.
