Trial of Woman Accused of Killing Son Is Delayed
The trial of a Perris woman accused of killing her infant son by allowing him to ingest methamphetamine was delayed Tuesday when three jurors were excused.
A Riverside County prosecutor was scheduled to make opening statements, but Superior Court Judge W. Charles Morgan instead ordered that three alternative jurors be chosen.
The delay is the latest twist in the trial of Amy Leanne Prien. Morgan is the fifth judge assigned to the case because four judges were disqualified for various reasons, including one who dismissed himself after making comments about the case to a newspaper reporter.
Last month, a judge excused a pool of 280 prospective jurors, citing misconduct by a prosecutor. The trial is expected to start today.
