T-Online Drops Overture for Google

T-Online International said it had dropped Overture Services Inc. as its sponsored search provider in favor of Google Inc., prompting Overture to consider legal action to enforce its contract.
One financial analyst called the change the first major blow to Overture since it said it would merge with Yahoo Inc.
“We take Yahoo as a direct competitor in several fields. It was purely a competitive decision,” said T-Online spokesman Mark Nierwetberg, who noted T-Online, Europe’s largest Internet provider, exercised a change-of-control provision in its contract with Overture to terminate the deal.
An Overture spokesman said the company was disappointed by T-Online’s decision and called it a contract breach.
