Temperatures Cool After Deadly Heat Wave

Temperatures in Europe settled back to normal, but the political fallout from a deadly heat wave continued.
Thunderstorms cooled Switzerland, while temperatures dropped to 68 degrees in the Netherlands. The heat eased in Germany, although officials were still on watch for fires. In France, complaints persisted that the government had mismanaged the crisis. Officials a day earlier had increased the estimate of fatalities from 50 to up to 3,000.
