Union to Ask U.S. to End WorldCom Pacts

Share

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers is expected to ask the federal government today to rescind all contracts with WorldCom Inc. and its MCI unit and prohibit it from bidding on future government contracts because of its “pattern and practice of corporate misconduct.”

“This illegal enterprise caused incalculable hardship on working Americans,” union President Edwin D. Hill said in a letter to be sent to the General Services Administration. The union is one of the largest in the telecom industry.

The GSA already has recommended that WorldCom be suspended from future contracts until it can show it has the necessary internal controls and business ethics to carry government calls and data.
