Bernard Tassler, 92; Edited a Magazine for AFL-CIO

Bernard W. Tassler, 92, a former managing editor of the AFL-CIO monthly magazine the American Federationist, died Aug. 13 of cardiac arrest in Silver Springs, Md.

Tassler became active in the labor movement in the 1930s and joined the Newspaper Guild in 1934. After working for the Long Island Daily Press for several years, Tassler moved to Washington, D.C., in 1940, when he was named managing editor of the magazine. He worked directly under George Meany, secretary-treasurer of the AFL-CIO.

After leaving the magazine in 1960, Tassler worked as a writer and editor for the U.S. Department of Labor. He later returned to New York City and worked for WCBS and the Journal-American newspaper.
