San Franciscans May Have to Eat Crow

Share

A few years ago my wife and I were in Toronto, enjoying a very good meal at a five-star restaurant, when an older couple entered and sat at a table next to us. The gentleman told the server that he and his wife had just arrived from San Francisco and were very worried that they weren’t going to be able to find a suitable restaurant in town. Overhearing this comment, I thought: Typical San Francisco. They think that nothing they experience elsewhere can measure up to their City by the Bay.

So I read with amusement “Exits, Not Entrees, on the Menu” (Aug. 19), about the demise of several of San Francisco’s finest eateries. Now that the dot-com millionaires have all gone bust, maybe San Franciscans are a little less snobbish about things, including their restaurants. Dare I say “just desserts”?
