From Times Wire Reports

Families of victims of the 1989 bombing of a French airliner returned to Paris from Libya after failing to negotiate a compensation package on par with the $2.7-billion settlement for the 1988 bombing of a Pan Am jet over Lockerbie, Scotland.

Paris has been embarrassed by the size of Libya’s compensation deal in the Lockerbie bombing. By contrast, the families of the 171 victims of the ill-fated UTA flight shared $33 million in a 1999 settlement with Libya. The plane blew up over Niger.
